The Petlad-Cambay Railway was originally the Gaekwar's Petlad Railway which opened in May 1890 between Petlad and Anand, a distance of 13 miles(21km). It was a broad gauge(BG) line and worked by Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway(BB&CIR).

In 1901 the Petlad-Cambay Railway had created two BG sections, the entire line was worked by BB&CIR.

Later, after 1918, it is reported that this BG railway was worked by Gaekwar's Dabhoi Railway(GDR). This has not been confirmed. The GDR became the Gaekwar's Baroda State Railway(GBSR) in 1920, all the lines being NG makes this unlikely.
