British Library catalogue entry for Indian Army List ‎ (1889-1947) IOR/L/MIL/17/5/1-219 includes a description of the frequency of publications at various periods and the editions which include War Services. For some years, a Supplement which contained war services of Indian Officers was published in January.

The following are links (as at mid September 2015), to catalogue pages on the Digital Library of India, which contain pdfs to view/open. Most are recent additions from the Library of the United Service Institution of India, where the scanning quality of the digital files is good. However there are some older digital files where the scanning quality is very poor. Perhaps more editions may be added in the future. These are large Adobe pdfs. If you have problems downloading, try during Indian office hours (IST 10 am to 6 pm) (IST = GMT+5:30), or GMT 4.30 to 12.30.

Researchers have commented: "Some of the 1943-1946 files are very large - over 1Gb - and the Indian server is slow. Each of these large files can take an hour or so to download, depending on the speed of your connection. Early morning UK time seems to be the best time for a faster download". Subsequently another researcher advised "...the downloads are coming in much faster now. Approx. 20-30 mins per file". "While I can't download to my iPad, they work fine on the desktop".. A comment in User's Feedback on the Digital Library of India website in March 2016 indicated that downloads could be to desktop/tablets and "We will surely work on mobile application to read the books online".

Catalogue descriptions are sometimes minimal. For some entries, two links are given. If the number of pages for each file is the same, these files may be duplicate editions. If the page numbers differ, they are likely to be different Parts, which have not been cataloged as such.

As stated previously, the following links do not directly open the pdfs.

Note: Most volumes have an Index of names at the back of the book. Currently (September 2015) the pdfs are not searchable.
