The Villupuram-Nellore Railway is referred to in some documents but was a route and not a railway as such
The route from Villupuram to Nellore was a metre gauge(MG) track of miles(133km). The route from Villupuram was via Katpadi, Pakala, Renigunta, Gudur to Nellor was worked by South Indian Railway(SIR) as a north-south route avoiding Madras.
The line comprised a number of sections:-
- The 'Villipuram-Katpadi Section' was part of the 'Villupuram-Guntakal State Railway' that continued nortn-westward from Pakala. This was a State Railway from Villupuram was opened in stages from Nov 1890, reaching Katpadi in Mar 1891[1].
- The 'Katpadi-Pakala-Gudur Section' was a branch from the above line
