  • 1846 raised by Capt W H Ryves as 17th Regiment of Bengal Irregular Cavalry
  • 1847 became 18th Regiment of Bengal Irregular Cavalry
  • 1861 became 8th Regiment of Bengal Cavalry
  • 1900 became 8th Regiment of Bengal Lancers
  • 1901 became 7th Bengal Lancers
  • 1903 became 8th Lancers
  • 1904 became 8th Cavalry
  • 1922 amalgamated with 6th King Edward's Own Cavalry to become 18th King Edward's Own Cavalry
