Gilgit-Baltistan

Gilgit-Baltistan was annexed by the British in 1846 after the 1st Sikh War and tranferred to the ruler of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan was created after Partition. From 1970s until 2009, it was known as Federally Administered Northern Areas (FANA). It includes the areas of Gilgit Agency, Hunza, Nagar and Baltistan.

Geography

Khunjerab Pass

It includes the some of the world's highest peaks including K2 (2nd), Nanga Parbat (9th) and Rakaposhi (27th). The Himalayas and Karakorum Ranges are found here.
