Rewari was in Gurgaon District, Punjab and was a major railway town on the Rajputana-Malwa State Railway, later the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway. The Rewari Steam Loco Shed was established in 1893. There was a high school.
It was one of those railway colonies along the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway whose Railway Institute dances were so well regarded that people would travel for up to six hours by train to attend.[1]
