Purulia Ranchi Light Railway
The Purulia Ranchi Light Railway was a narrow gauge branch of the Bengal-Nagpur Railway - later South Eastern Railway. It was opened by Sir Andrew Fraser, Lieutenant Governor of Bengal on 14th November 1907 [1]. The section of the railway extended to 73 miles(117 km). Previous to this Ranchi had been about 70 miles from a station.
The line was extended to Lohardaga - about 44 miles(70km) west of Ranchi in 1913. [2]
The track was converted to broad gauge in January 2004.
