Great Western Bengal Railway Company
The Great Western Bengal Railway Company was formed in 1845 by Prince Dwarkanath Tagore, the chairman of Carr, Tajore & Co, Calcutta, along with a group of local merchants.
It was proposed to construct a line northward directly along the river Ganges, terminating at Rajmahal, the port of the India General Steam Navigation Company (a subsidiary of Carr,Tagore & Co).
Eventually, at some point between 1846 and 1849, the Great Western Bengal Railway Company was taken over by the East Indian Railway Company (EIR).
The date of aquisition needs to determined by examination of the IOR record.
