Prattapur Sugar Factory Tramway

The 'Prattapur Sugar Factory', Siwan District, Bihar State, opened in 1903 as the 'Purtabpore Sugar Factory Company'. Begg, Sutherland & Co were the Managing Agent [1].

In the early 1930's the cane fields were connected to the factory with a 12 mile(19km) 2ft/610mm narrow gauge(NG) tramway system. Three miles(5km) of the line ran through the streets from the factory to Mairwa station on the Bengal and North-Western Railway. This section closed and was lifted by 1984 [1].
