Burma, Tapun Forest Tramway
Burma, Tapun Forest Tramway
The Burma Forest Department, Zigon Division, in 1911-12 constructed the 'Tapun Forest Tramway'. Following the rains of 1910 it is recorded that 2018 teak logs had been scattered on either side of the Taungnyo Stream near Tapun village, this was after the flooding silted up the river preventing logs being floated out. In order to collect these logs 2 miles(3.2km) of 2ft/610mm narrow gauge(NG) tramway was obtained by the Pegu Cirle of the Zigon division and of this 1¼ miles(2km) was used to convey the logs to an accessible part of the stream. By 1916 the Forest Department had sanctioned the disposal of the tramway, they considered a better solution was to remodel the river [1].
