Rangoon Water & Sewerage Department Railway, Burma

In 1886 the Rangoon Municipal Government undertook a project for the improvement of the water supply to the city.

A 'John Fowler' portable tramway was used in the construction of the water storage tank. The records indicate that this involved track, locomotives and trucks, gauge 1ft 8in(508mm), and this equipment was offered for sale on completion of the project in 1886-89 [1].

In 1937-38 a water supply extension scheme was carried out at Pegu Yomas. Concrete pipes were manufactured at a special plant at Tagadale from Nov 1938 and these were conveyed to the site by a 15 mile(24km) narrow gauge(NG)railway [1].
