Chronology

  • 1803 raised as 44th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1857 mutinied at Agra 31 May

In 1861 after the mutiny the title was taken by the 11th Sylhet Local (Light) Infantry which later became 44th Gurkha Rifles.
