Chronology
- 1776 raised for the Vizier of Oude
- 1776 commanded by Captain Thomas Naylor
- 1778? incorporated in HEIC service as the 29th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1781 became the 29th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantryy
- 1796 became the 2nd Battalion 9th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1824 became the 21st Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1857 mutinied
In 1861, after the mutiny, the title was briefly given to the Loyal Purbeah Regiment which subsequently became the 17th (Loyal Purbeah) Regiment of Bengal Infantry.
