- 1858 formed as Loyal Purbeah Regiment from loyal elements of the 3rd, 36th and 61st Bengal Native Infantry
- 1861 became 21st then 17th Bengal Native Infantry
- 1864 became 17th (Loyal Purbeah) Bengal Native Infantry
- 1898 became 17th (The Loyal) Bengal Infantry
- 1902 became 17th Musulman Rajput Infantry (The Loyal Regiment)
- 1922 disbanded
