Chronology

  • 1820 raised as 2nd Extra Battalion
  • 1824 became the 21st Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry
  • 1857 mutinied at Karachi
  • 1857 disbanded

In 1861 after the mutiny the title was taken by the Marine Battalion
