Chronology

  • 1803 raised as 2nd Battalion Ceylon Native Infantry formed of Malays from Moluccas and Penang
  • 1804 became Charles Baillie's Regiment of Foot
  • 1805 absorbed Caffre Corps
  • 1807 became the 3rd Ceylon Regiment
  • 1814 recruitment changed to almost exclusively African slaves
  • 1815 absorbed 4th Ceylon Regiment
  • 1817 disbanded
