- 1803 raised as 2nd Battalion Ceylon Native Infantry formed of Malays from Moluccas and Penang
- 1804 became Charles Baillie's Regiment of Foot
- 1805 absorbed Caffre Corps
- 1807 became the 3rd Ceylon Regiment
- 1814 recruitment changed to almost exclusively African slaves
- 1815 absorbed 4th Ceylon Regiment
- 1817 disbanded
