Also known as The Staffordshire Regiment

History

  • 1705 raised in Lichfield as Colonel Luke Lillingstone's Regiment
  • 1751 became 38th Regiment of Foot
  • 1782 became 38th (1st Staffordshire) Regiment of Foot
  • 1881 amalgamated with the 80th Regiment of Foot to become 1st Battalion The South Staffordshire Regiment
  • 1959 amalgamated with the North Staffordshire Regiment to form the Staffordshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's)
  • 2007 merged with the Cheshire Regiment and the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment into a new three battalion regiment called the Mercian Regiment and became 3rd Battalion, Mercian Regiment (Staffords)
