Assam Valley Light Horse
The Lakhimpur Volunteer Rifle Corps were raised on 3rd November 1882 and later became the Lakhimpur Mounted Rifles on 27th July 1888. On the 29th February the Sibsagar Mounted Rifles were formed and later became the Sibsagar Mounted Infantry on 30th April 1886 before resuming their original designation on 15th February 1889. The Darrang Mounted Infantry formed on the 3rd June 1887 and later became the Darrang Mounted Rifles on 15th February 1889. On 6th November 1891 these units amalgamated with the Nowgong Mounted Rifles, which were raised on the 27th July 1888 and the Gauhati Rifles, which were formed 13th November 1885, to become the Assam Valley Mounted Rifles. Designated Assam Valley Light Horse on 25th September 1896. On 1st May 1906 the unit absorbed the Shillong Volunteer Rifles which was formed on 11th August 1882.
