The Barharwa-Azimganj-Katwa Railway was constructed as a "loop" line in 1913.

This was a branch of the East Indian Railway(EIR) which worked this line. It was a branch/loop line extension to Hooghly-Katwa Railway and finally absorbed into the EIR network.
