Mangalore Jetty Railway

By December 1901 a 181 foot(55 metre) long jetty in Mangalore harbour had a double track metre gauge(MG) line on it used for loading and unloading ships. It is assumed to have been handworked [1].

This became known as the ‘Old Mangalore Port’ with the opening of the ‘New Mangalore Port. It is popularly known by name of Bunder. The port was used to ferry goods and passengers to Lakshadweep island and Middle East countries. Now fishing has become main activity of this harbour [2]
