Tilkah Tea Monorail, Cacher District

The 'Tilkah Tea Co Ltd', for which the 'Octavius Steel & Co Ltd was the Managing Agent, was based in Lakipur in the Cachar District of Assam. An unknown type of monorail system, just over 5 miles(8km) long, was laid between the company's Lahhipur and Tilkah tea gardens by 1908. It is not known how long the system was in use. Silchar station on the Silchar Branch of the Assam-Bengal Railway and Madhura Ghat on the Barak River were used to convey the manufactured tea [1].
