Burma, Taukte Forest Tramway

The Burma Forest Department, Zigon Division, Pegu Circle, in 1912-13 constructed the 'Taukte Forest Tramway', a 3 mile (4.8km) section of portable tramway between Taukte and Minbu. This was to transport teak logs extracted by the Circle to the nearest good floating stream at Minbu. The tramway was expected to deal with around 1,000 tons of timber per year and would save a drag of 6 miles(10km) by elephant. In the 1912-13 season the line carried 554 tons of logs. In 1913-14 the gradients and curves were improved and the line was extended 1 mile(1.6km) eastwards enabling 1,644 tons of logs to be transported that year. In 1914-15 the lie carried nearly 1,500 tons and was liftede after that season [1].
