Nepal - Bihar, Katmandu 1911 Reconstruction Railway
In 1934 an 8.1 magnitude earthquake occured with its epicentre about 10km south of Mount Everest causing massive destruction. It was named the 'Nepal-Bihar Earthquake and one of the most severe ever to strike southeast Asia [1]
About 25% of the buildings in Katmandu were destroyed and the Public Works Department (PWD) undertook emergency reeconstruction works. A hand-worked 2ft/610mm narrow gauge(NG) railway was used to clear up operations following this earthquake [2].
