- 1864 known as 16th Bengal Cavalry
- 1882 disbanded
- 1885 raised in Ambala as 16th Regiment of Bengal Cavalry by Lt-Col G C Ross
- 1890 became 16th Regiment of Bengal Lancers
- 1901 became 16th Bengal Lancers
- 1903 became 16th Cavalry
- 1921 amalgamated with 13th Cavalry to become 13/16th Cavalry
- 1922 became 6th Duke of Connaught's Own Lancers
- 1947 allocated to Pakistan on Partition
