  • 1689 raised in Enniskillen as James Wynne's Regiment of Dragoons
  • 1751 formally titled the 5th Regiment of Dragoons
  • 1788 renamed the 5th Royal Irish Dragoons
  • 1799 suspected of treachery and disbanded
  • 1858 reformed as the 5th (or Royal Irish) Regiment of Dragoons
  • 1861 renamed the 5th (or Royal Irish) Lancers
  • 1922 amalgamated with the 16th The Queen's Lancers to become 16th/5th Queen's Royal Lancers
  • 1954 became the 16th/5th The Queen's Royal Lancers
  • 1993 amalgamated with the 17th/21st Lancers to form The Queen's Royal Lancers
