At Independence in 1947 the 8th Punjab Regiment was allocated to Pakistan. In 1956 it was merged with the [[10th Baluch Regiment| Baloch Regiment]],<ref>Wikipedia article</ref> with Regimental Centre now at [[Abbottabad]].
