== Synopsis ==
On 1 April Sirdar Mahommed Akbar Khan came to Kandahar with a sortie was able large body of troops hoping to bring in take the city following the earthquake of 19 February. He found the damage had been quickly repaired however so he established a flock of 500 sheep and rigorous blockade. Rumour came to Jalalabad on 7 5 April that the relieving army under General Pollock had been repulsed at the Khyber Pass (later found not to be true). General Sale mounted a major assault decided on an attack on Akbar Khan's forces and defeated them convincingly though Colonel Dennie was killed. Akbar retreated towards Kabul and the district chiefs tendered their submission. Sale had effectively raised Afghan camp in the hope of raising the siege. Pollock Almost all the garrison's army reached Jalalabad fighting men were detailed in three columns for the assault. A skeleton guard was left on 16th the walls. On 7 Aprilat dawn the force issued from the the Kabul and Peshawar gates.The right column under Captain Havelock drove the enemy back
