On 10 April 1858 General Sir Edward Lugard faced 3,000 rebels under Ghulum Husain at the village of Tigra - northwest of Jaunpur. The rebels were defeated and Lugard then continued on to relieve Azamgarh [1]

  • Further information regarding the troops present can be found in Hart’s New Army List 1863 (books.google.com) This mentions on page 88 that Colonel Riddell “commanded the Artillery of Lugard’s Column at the affair of Tigree “ and also on page 79 that Lt Colonel Michell commanded the Royal Horse Artillery at that same battle.
