: The author is stated to be Katharine Blanche Guthrie.If so, she may have been Katherine Blanche, daughter of Thomas Starkie, Esq., Queen's Counsel. who married the Rev. Lowry Guthrie 23 February 1846. She travelled from England,with a female companionM, possibly her daughter and was met by M's husband, G, and proceeded to Belgaum. G is probably a relative, possibly son-in-law, who appears to have been in government employment, but it possibly the Collector. It is unclear whether he stated his garden was the "finest in the Army or Civil ServiceBelgaum".
