The '''Bengal Provincial Railway Company''' (BPR) worked was formed c.1884. This private line was opened in 1885; a short (33 mile) 2' 6" narrow gauge railway from [[Magra]] (in [[Hooghly]] district) to [[Tarakeshwar]], an important place of pilgrimage for the Shiva sect.
This Narrow Gauge([[Rail_gauge#Narrow_Gauge|NG]]) line was formerly known as [[Tarakeshwar Magra Railway]]; closed 1956
