Originally formed as the [[Tirhoot State Railway Volunteer Rifle Corps]] on 17th January 1879. The [[Ghazipur Volunteer Rifle Corps]], which was raised on 14th June 1879, became the [[Ghazipur Volunteer Rifle Battalion]] on 11th November 1881 then resumed its former designation in 1885 and on 17th June 1892 amalgamated as the [[Bengal and North-Western Railway Volunteer Corps]]. On 1st April 1917 became [[22nd Bengal and North Western Railway Battalion]] before becoming Bengal and North Western Railway Battalion on 1st October 1920.

The Bengal and North Western Railway Battalion were an auxiliary regiment under the Bengal command. They comprised staff of the Bengal and North-Western Railway.

Chronology

  • 1879 raised on 14th June as Bengal and North Western Railway Volunteer Rifles[1]
  • 1892 amalgamated with the Tirhoot State Railway Volunteer Rifle Corps on 17th June (GGO 573, dated 17th June 1893)[1]
  • 1901 designation altered (GOCC No. 327, dated 29th April 1901)[1]
  • 1917 1st April became 22nd Bengal and North Western Railway Battalion[2]
  • 1920 redesignated Bengal and North Western Railway Battalion on 1st October[2]
