There were a limited number of Indians who were part of the British Army. During the [[First World War]] Prior to 1924, there were Lascars Indian soldiers serving in the Inland Water Transport, Royal EngineersArtillery as drivers, and Royal Artillery, with some examples of Indians native gunners in the Royal Horse Artillery,ammunition columns serving as wagon-men. <ref>Sepoy.
