Searching the records is free, but charges apply to view the records, although they can be viewed for free at TNA (and other institutions with a FMP subscription). Also on Findmypast is the database '''British Army, Worldwide Index 1871''', with census day 2 April 1871 and generally covering much of the June Quarter 1871, extracted from War Office army pay lists.
