At present (August December 2015) we are updating working on further updates to this list as a work-in-progress project. We have identified over 500 by adding new information and references from many different Railways including tramways,industrial lines, rail/river ferries. These will be added over the next few monthssources. FIBIS Fact File #4: Research sources for Indian Railways, 1845-1947, The aim is far more comprehensive list to make as much information as possible available on all aspects of over 330 names and this will, the railways in due course be revised. Ultimately those new names will be included here so check back India from time to time if you do not at the first find beginnings in the name that you seek. If you have a specific query regarding Railways please e-mail the Fibis Membership Secretary asking your question 1840's through to be forwarded to Michael Pearce PEA-2292 who is co-ordinating this projectpartition in 1947.
We have extended the number of Railways identified and now include Tramways, Monorails, Industrial lines, Rail/River ferries, Railway Constructions and Railway Equipment Manufacturers. The current number of pages is 570 and this will be further extended.
FIBIS Fact File #4: Research sources for Indian Railways, 1845-1947, is a comprehensive listing of over 330 names and this will, in due course, be revised. It does contain invaluable advice on tracing 'Researching ancestors in the UK records of Indian Railways' with particular reference to the Indian Office Records (IOR) held at the British Library.
