===Railway Conference===
The first ‘Railway Conference’ was held in 1879. The periodic meetings of the Conference brought senior railway officials together to formulate policies and procedures that would enhance inter-line cooperation and coordination <ref>[https://books.google.co.uk/books?hl=en&lr=&id=TPB5RTODBJAC&oi=fnd&pg=PR7&dq=related:DzaXcOnJFUllxM:scholar.google.com/&ots=6f9_4eOOAC&sig=c8uUUmZ_hq54k9zTZH1kyt8sAjs#v=onepage&q=Conference&f=false Google Books "India's Railway History: A Research Handbook" by John Hurd II, Ian J. This by developing rules and regulations for booking of traffic and interchange of trains between railways; also to act as a consultative Committee and as a Board of Arbitration <ref name= IRCA>[http://www.indianrailways.gov.in/railwayboard/uploads/directorate/IRCA/index.jsp Indian Railways "Indian Railway Conference Association"]; Retrieved 19 Jul 2016</ref>.

* '''1876''' January. The ‘Railway Conference’ in Calcutta, was postponed, in consequence of the inability of many of the chief officers of the railways to be absent from their duty during the press of work occasioned by the traffic arrangements connected with the supply of food to the famine-stricken districts in the Bombay and Madras Presidencies. Many questions of interest and importance had been selected for discussion, including the establishment of a clearing house; the assimilation of systems of working, and of regulations; the adaptation of rolling stock to military purposes; the simplification and reduction of goods tariff; continuous brake power; communication between passengers, guards, and drivers; uniformity of statistics of and of returns of accidents. The arrangements connected with the Conference had been committed to Captain Kellow Pye, R. E., whose lamented death, subsequent to its postponement, has deprived the Government of a very able and rising public servant, and the Railway Department especially, of one of its most efficient officers. <ref>British Library ‘India Office Records L/PARL/2/100 “Railways in India for the year 1876-77” by Juland Danvers , Government Director of the Indian Railways’- presented to both Houses of Parliament’ by HM Command. * '''1876-78.''' The extreme pressure brought on the several Railway Administrations by the famines of 1876-77 and 1877-78 from their duties during these years; and the general and the political aspect of affairs in 1878-79, rendered impossible the withdrawal of Railway officers from their duties during these years. The General Copnference originally proposed had twice to be postponed <ref name=1880-81p4> “Railways in India for the year 1880-81” by Juland Danvers , Government Director of the Indian Railways’-– presented to both Houses of Parliament’ by HM Command.
