The Lists were initially published on a monthly basis, but some years were only published quarterly. The lists below covering 1913, 1914, 1918, 1919 and 1920 were produced both monthly and quarterly. The NLS holding does not include monthly lists for those months covered by quarterly lists.

'''Note''': During the First and Second World Wars there were two separate editions of the Navy List, one of which was a Confidential version for official use only, the other being an expurgated version available to the general public. See [[Royal Navy ]] for details. The editions mentioned below are most likely to be those available to the general public.
