Originally called The survey of the '''Rajputana State Railway'''(RSR), initial construction Delhi-Rewari line began in 1873 May 1869 and 1874 the project was to link sanctioned by the autumn. The earth work on this line based on 5 feet 6 inch broad gauge([[Delhi]] to [[Agra]] via [[AlwarRail_gauge#Broad_Gauge|BG]] ) alignment began in April 1870 and [[Bandikui]]was done departmentally. In 1875January 1871, the line had extended it was determined that all new railways should be constructed as far as [[Ajmer]] with the aim to reach [[Ahmadabad]] and to connect to the Broad Gauge metre gauge([[Rail_gaugeRail_gauge_#Broad_GaugeMetre_Gauge|BGMG]]) of and the estimates were revised accordingly. [[Bombay, Baroda and Central India RailwayFrederick Smith Stanton|Major F. S. Stanton]](BB&CIR)was appointed at this stage to head the Delhi Division.

In 1879, The [[1870-71_Report_on_Railways#Progress_on_State_lines._Paragraphs_5-10.3B_Pages_3-4| “1870-71 Annual Report for Indian Railways]] uses the RSR was again authorised to build new lines in title ‘Rajpootana Railway’ with 370 miles (595km) metre gauge([[Rail_gauge_#Metre_Gauge|MG]]) sanctioned for construction.

In 18811871 the Government resolved for the RSR to undertake the construction of metre-82gauge railways in Rajputana, to facilitate the supply of salt from the Great Salt Lake at Sambhar to the '''RajputanaNorth-Malwa State Railway''' (RMSR) was created amalgamatingWest Provinces, under single management, existing State Railways:and to get rid of the vexatious salt-*Rajputana State Railway (RSR)*customs barrier.
