*Danish West Indies, consisting of the islands St. Thomas, St. Jan and St. Croix, (which were purchased by the USA in 1917, now named the Virgin Islands, the long standing English name). Britain had occupied the Danish West Indies in 1801–02 and 1807–15 during the Napoleonic Wars.
