Chronology
- 1917 formed as the 20th Nilgiri Malabar Battalion on 1st April when the Nilgiri Volunteer Rifles and Malabar Volunteer Rifles amalgamated[1]
- 1920 renamed on 1st October the Nilgiri Malabar Battalion[1]

- Uniform - Khaki
- Badge - Stag's head encircled by garter inscribed "Auxiliary Force India", surmounted by crown. All encircled by coconut palm wreath with scroll below inscribed "Nilgiri Malabar Batt"[1]
