Summary
At the end of the 1st Rohilla War Nawab Faizullah Khan was secured in possession of the State of Rampur. On his death in 1793 his son Mohammed Ali Khan was murdered and the throne seized by another son Ghulam Muhammad Khan. The British sent a force under Sir Robert Abercrombie to assist the Nawab Wazir of Oudh against the usurper. At the Battle of Bhitaura the British were victorious but suffered heavy casualties. Mohammed Ali Khan's infant son Ahmad Ali Khan was proclaimed Nawab and confirmed in possession of Rampur and lands yielding 10 lakh rupees per year. The rest of the state was appropriated by the Nawab of Oudh.
