• 1796 became 1st Battalion, 3rd Madras Native Infantry
• 1812 became 3rd Madras Native Infantry (Palamcottah Light Infantry)
• 1824 became 3rd Palamcottah Light Infantry Regiment, Madras Native Infantry
• 1885 became 3rd Palamcottah Regiment, Madras Light Infantry
• 1901 became 63rd (Palamcottah) Madras Light Infantry
• 1903 became 63rd (Palamcotta) Light Infantry
• 1922 disbanded

First World War

The regiment was in East Africa, where it was briefly involved with the fighting at Tanga, then spent the rest of the time guarding railway lines and bridges in and around the Mombassa area with no significant actions being recorded.
