Chronology
- 1804 raised as 1st Btn 29th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry following 1796 reorganisation when previous 29th became 2nd Btn 9th Regiment
- 1824 1st Battalion became 57th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major J Swinton
- 1857 mutinied at Ferozepore 14 May
