The Katihar Section Railway was a metre gauge(MG) section of the East Bengal Railway, opened in 1888-89, which became part of the 'EBR Metre Gauge' mainline. This section from Katihar connected westward to the 'Manihari Branch Railway' which had opened in 1887; and extended eastward to join the earlier MG line constructed to Kaunia [1] .
