Actions == Events in [[British India]] ==Actions during the wars between the French Revolutionary government and several European states. [[French|France]] declared war on the British and the [[Dutch]] on 1 February 1793. In 1795 the French seized the Netherlands and set up the Batavian Republic as a puppet state. To prevent the Dutch colony of Ceylon falling into the hands of French Republicans the British landed forces at Trincomalee in 1796 eventually taking control of the whole island which became a Crown Colony in 1802.
