On 15 January 1958, North Eastern Railway was split into two zones, being with what had been the [[Assam Railway]] and the [[Darjeeling-Himalayan Railway]] becoming Northeast Frontier Railway, the Pandu region of the former North Eastern Railway with the exception of the Purnea (exclusive)—Murliganj and Banmankhi—Behariganj Sections, and the remainder left as North Eastern Railway.
