Changes

The Government in [[Calcutta]] on advice from the Envoy in [[Kabul]] decided to reduce the payments made to the tribes to keep the passes from [[Peshawar]] to Kabul open. This caused the eastern Ghilzai tribes to block the passes cutting the route to India. On 9 October 1841 an advance party of [[35th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry|35th Native Infantry]] under [http://www.oxforddnb.com/index/101007921/ Col. Thomas Monteath] left for Bootkhak followed by the [[13th Regiment of Foot|13th Foot]] on 11 October. Gen. Sale took the whole force forward in stages fighting actions at [[Action at Boothak 1841|Boothak]], [[Action on the March to Tezin|Tezin]] and [[Battle of Jugdulluk Crest 1841|Jugdulluk]] and sustaining considerable losses. He reached [[Siege of Jalalabad|Jellalabad]] on 12 November where he was to remain [[Siege of Jalalabad|besieged]] until April 1842.
