'''General Sir Charles John Stanley Gough VC, GCB (1832–1912)''' was the grandson of [[Hugh Gough|Viscount Gough]] and brother of [[Hugh Gough]]. He was born in Chittagong and entered the army in 1848. He served in [[8th Bengal Cavalry]] during the [[2nd Sikh War]] and became a major in the [[5th Bengal European Cavalry]]. He won a VC for gallantry on four separate occasion during the [[Indian Mutiny]]. He also took part in the [[2nd Afghan War]].
