North-Western Province and Oudh Province were two separate provinces from 1856 to 1902, when they joined together as United Provinces of Agra and Oudh.

The evidence indicates that by 1890 the North West Provinces & Oudh Provinces Railway was an organisational unit under the [[Public Works Department]](PWD) Railways Branch. They appear to be co-ordinating the various railways that ran through the two provinces.
