The line from [[Calcutta]] to [[Port Canning Rice Mill Tramway|Port Canning]], constructed in 1862 by the 'Calcutta and South-Eastern Railway', was the first railway track on the east bank of the Hooghly. The '''[[Diamond Harbour Line Railway]]''' link was constructed by Calcutta and South-Eastern Railway in 1883.
In 1868 the company sold the line to the Indian government (management then being leased to the [[Eastern Bengal Railway]]), and the company was dissolved in March 1870.
